Contemporary Fine Art By

Like so many things, the internet has revolutionised the sale of art. Visiting terrestrial galleries to find something you would like to buy can be very pleasurable, but it can also be time consuming, and sometimes intimidating. The world wide web allows you to browse countless works of art, presented in  in high definition, from the comfort of home. Although having sold successfully through third-party galleries for many years, I set up “When I Dream” because I wanted to have my own presence on the net in order to sell directly to collectors. It means the transaction can take place without either of us having to part-fund a gallery’s commission, which is normally around 30 to 45% of a painting’s selling price. In addition, I can guarantee quality, ensuring that purchasers receive a personal,, courteous and professional service at all times.

I really hope you enjoy viewing the paintings on this site, and that perhaps you will even spot something you wish to buy!

Some thoughts on buying art.

A great deal of nonsense is written about art, and always will be simply because it is such a subjective thing.

At it’s best it can be wonderful. Perplexing, contentious, shocking, uplifting, soothing, inspiring, intriguing, all these things and more. It has the powere to remind us of a time, place, person or emotion that transcends or surpasses mere memory. In short, it is about emotion and engagement.

We all know the old cliche “I don’t know much about art but I know what I like”, and appreciate that it has become something of a joke. But like most cliches it contains a core of pure truth. When buying art one should not be swayed by fashion, snobbery, or the opinions of so-called experts. If you are spending your hard-earned cash on a piece of art, quite simply you should love it. It should speak to you. Whether it be abstract strokes of colour, or a realist portrait, art has the ability to connect with us in ways we may find hard to understand or describe, but when it does it is wonderful, and you have the chance to own something that you truly love.

Buy what you connect with. Think about how it makes you feel and buy what you will want to look at and enjoy every single day. Buy what  you  like, and it is unlikely you will ever regret it.
